Easy Group Food Ideas for Parties and Office Lunches

A group meal works best when the food plan matches the gathering. An office lunch needs a smooth handoff. A birthday meal needs a serving plan. Both need enough information for the kitchen to understand what you are asking for. Here are a few ways to keep it simple.

Choose the format before choosing quantities

Will people eat at the same time, or arrive in waves? Will they share trays, or need clearly separated meals? Write down the format first. It affects how you think about chicken styles, sides and the person receiving the order, even before you decide on an exact quantity.

For a small meal, compare ordinary menu orders with your plan. For a larger spread, use What Da Chick catering. The catering food minimum is $500 before taxes and fees. It is a useful boundary for planning, not a reason to over-order just to make a smaller lunch look like an event.

Idea one: chicken rice as the main event

Chicken-and-rice platters give the group a clear centerpiece. Medium platters are listed for 18–20 servings and require two or three chicken styles; large platters are listed for 30 servings and allow one to four styles. Use those descriptions as serving guides and discuss your actual group with the restaurant.

One platter can combine styles, but every platter needs its own choices in the form. If you order multiple platters, check the style and meat preference on each one. Poached, crispy, spicy and roasted choices let you offer variety without treating the whole group as having one favorite.

Idea two: give sides a job

Popcorn Chicken, Roasted Chicken Satays, gyoza and wings are among the catering starters. House Salad and Seaweed Salad are listed as salad trays. Choose a side because it adds something your group wants, rather than because every category needs a tick beside it.

Read the units before increasing the count. For example, the satay tray is listed as 20 skewers, while gyoza is listed as 25 pieces. Those are different ways of describing portions. A tray count alone does not tell you how a whole meal will feed people with different appetites.

Ask about serving details

If you need utensils, plates, serving tools or a specific setup, ask the team. The food list does not automatically confirm that every event extra is included.

Idea three: a clear plan for the office

Choose one point of contact, confirm the guest count, and collect dietary questions before submitting. Note the building address if requesting delivery, the access instructions and the time the meal should begin. Delivery coverage, availability and fees need restaurant approval.

Keep your serving location clear. Watertown is currently serving; Somerville at 193 Broadway is Coming Soon. An office’s proximity to the upcoming branch is not confirmation that it can receive catering from that address yet.

Work backward from the gathering date

Catering requires at least seven calendar days of advance notice in Eastern Time. Submit the date, requested time and details early enough for restaurant review. Do not treat sending the form as a confirmed booking. The team needs to confirm availability, final pricing and payment instructions; the order is confirmed after payment is verified.

For a full walkthrough, use our catering planning guide. Before sending, review the branch, each platter, side quantities and notes. After sending, keep the reference with the event plan so changes can be discussed against the same request.

Your questions, answered

How do I decide the right quantities?

Start with the guest count, meal format and listed serving guides, then ask the restaurant to review your plan. Tray sizes alone do not guarantee a particular appetite or portion split.

Can I place a catering request for tomorrow?

The website requires at least seven calendar days of notice. Choose an eligible date and wait for the restaurant to confirm availability and final details.
